Brand Strategy, Branding and Interior Design by ADELAHAYE

In the heart of Seminyak, one of Bali’s most established lifestyle destinations, KLEO Seminyak represents a new generation of neighbourhood hotel: social, expressive, design-led and deeply connected to its location.

As the first JdV by Hyatt hotel in Southeast Asia, KLEO Seminyak presented an opportunity to create something distinctly local within an international hospitality platform. ADELAHAYE was appointed to develop the brand and interior design, creating an integrated experience in which identity, space, storytelling and guest experience work as one.

The result is a 60-room lifestyle hotel that brings together bold interiors, art, colour, social spaces and a relaxed sense of tropical hospitality, translating the energy of Seminyak into a contemporary hotel experience.

Designing for the local Seminyak neighbourhood

Seminyak has evolved significantly over the past two decades.

What began as Bali’s alternative to the larger resort districts has developed into one of Southeast Asia’s best-known lifestyle destinations, bringing together restaurants, independent boutiques, beach clubs, galleries, hotels and an increasingly international creative community.

For KLEO, our starting point was therefore not to create another interpretation of a conventional Balinese resort.

Instead, we looked at the character of Seminyak itself.

It is layered, cosmopolitan and constantly changing. International influences sit alongside local culture. Fashion, art, food, music and hospitality overlap. The experience can move effortlessly from quiet mornings to restaurants, pools, galleries and late-night socialising.

KLEO needed to capture that rhythm.

The objective was to create a hotel that felt unmistakably at home in Bali while presenting a more contemporary, urban and design-conscious interpretation of the destination.

Brand and Interior Design as One Experience

ADELAHAYE’s work on KLEO extended across both branding and interior design, allowing the hotel’s identity and physical environment to develop together rather than as separate disciplines.

This was fundamental to the project.

For lifestyle hotels in particular, a brand is experienced through much more than a logo. It is encountered through arrival, lighting, materials, furniture, artwork, signage, music, food and beverage, guest rooms and the way public spaces encourage people to interact.

Our approach was therefore to consider KLEO as a complete hospitality experience.

The visual identity informed the interiors. The interiors provided opportunities for the brand to come alive. Art, graphics, colour and objects added further layers of personality.

Rather than applying branding to a finished space, the brand became part of the architecture of the guest experience.

A Contemporary Interpretation of Bali

The interior design draws on a combination of tropical modernism, mid-century influences, natural materials, expressive colour and locally inspired details.

Importantly, we wanted to avoid relying on obvious or overly literal Balinese motifs.

Instead, references to Bali appear through materiality, craft, texture, artwork and atmosphere.

Warm timber, tactile surfaces and handcrafted details provide a sense of place, while stronger graphic elements and unexpected colour combinations introduce the more playful personality of KLEO.

The result is deliberately eclectic.

Furniture, lighting, artwork and accessories feel collected rather than prescribed, helping the hotel develop the character of an evolving home, club or creative retreat rather than a conventional hospitality environment.

Guest Rooms with Personality

KLEO Seminyak comprises 60 individually considered guest rooms, including spacious 46-square-metre rooms and larger premium categories.

The guest room concept balances personality with restraint.

Colour, art and distinctive furniture bring energy into the rooms, while the overall planning remains calm, intuitive and functional. Natural materials and warmer tones create a residential quality, contrasted with more expressive details that give KLEO its individual character.

Bathrooms take a quieter approach, providing a more restorative counterpoint to the energy of Seminyak outside.

This balance between expression and simplicity became important throughout the hotel: spaces needed to be memorable without becoming exhausting.

KLEO is a lifestyle hotel, but it still needs to work exceptionally well as a place to sleep, retreat and reset.

Designing Social Spaces, Not Simply Public Areas

One of the most important considerations in contemporary hospitality design is how public spaces actually behave.

Hotels are increasingly expected to function as social destinations for both travellers and local communities. Lobbies are no longer simply spaces for check-in, while restaurants, bars, lounges and pools increasingly overlap with working, meeting, events and cultural programming.

At KLEO, the public areas were conceived around this more fluid idea of hospitality.

The Atrium operates as a creative heart for the hotel, incorporating art, music and informal gathering. It provides a place where guests can discover local creative expression, listen to records, meet or simply spend time.

The Gallery, overlooking Petitenget Street, offers another flexible environment that moves easily between working, meeting and socialising.

Together, these spaces help transform KLEO from somewhere guests simply stay into somewhere they can inhabit.

Rooftop Social

At the top of the hotel, Rooftop Social introduces another layer to the experience.

Designed around the rooftop pool and views across Seminyak, it was conceived as a relaxed social destination capable of changing throughout the day.

It can operate as a quiet poolside escape in the morning, a casual meeting place through the afternoon and a more energetic social environment towards sunset and evening.

The design takes cues from the ease of Mediterranean and Riviera hospitality while retaining KLEO’s tropical character.

This adaptability was important. Successful lifestyle hospitality spaces need to create different reasons to visit at different times of day.

The rooftop therefore becomes more than a hotel amenity. It is part of KLEO’s relationship with the wider Seminyak neighbourhood.

Designing for JdV by Hyatt

JdV by Hyatt is built around hotels with individual personalities that reflect the neighbourhoods they inhabit.

For KLEO, that created an interesting design challenge.

The hotel needed to have the operational intelligence and quality expected from an international hospitality group while retaining the individuality and informality of an independent lifestyle hotel.

Our approach was not to design around a rigid international aesthetic.

Instead, we developed KLEO from the destination outward.

Seminyak informed the personality. Bali informed the materiality and creative collaborations. The JdV by Hyatt platform provided the framework within which that individuality could operate.

It demonstrates an increasingly important direction for international hospitality: globally operated, locally expressed.

The Role of Interior Design in Hotel Branding

KLEO also demonstrates why branding and interior design are becoming increasingly interconnected.

For a new generation of travellers, the physical hotel is one of the most powerful expressions of the brand.

A guest may discover a property through an image of a bedroom, restaurant, pool or lobby long before encountering its logo.

Interior design therefore has a significant commercial role.

Distinctive spaces create recognition. They generate photography and social content. They encourage local visitation. They influence how guests remember and describe a property.

When brand strategy and interior design are developed together, these moments can become part of a coherent story rather than a collection of individually designed spaces.

At KLEO, this thinking extends from the identity and communications through to guest rooms, artwork, furniture, public spaces and the rooftop experience.

A New Expression of Bali Hospitality

Bali continues to be one of the world’s most competitive and creatively progressive hospitality markets.

That creates an interesting challenge for designers and operators.

The opportunity is no longer simply to create something that looks “Balinese”. It is to understand which Bali a hotel belongs to, who it is speaking to and how it can contribute something relevant to its particular neighbourhood.

For KLEO Seminyak, the answer was a hotel that reflects a more contemporary side of the island: creative, international, social and confident, but still relaxed and rooted in place.

For ADELAHAYE, the project represents our approach to hospitality design: bringing together brand strategy, branding, interior design and guest experience to create destinations with a clear and distinctive point of view.

KLEO is not simply a hotel located in Seminyak.

It is an expression of Seminyak.

And that distinction is increasingly what makes a hospitality brand memorable.
