Out of the hundreds of properties slated to open in 2024, a select number have piqued our interest, notable for their ambitious design or sustainability credentials, unique location or multifaceted facilities. Revered hospitality groups are breaking new ground, while new hotel brands are making their grand debut.

With adventure travel still high on the agenda, hoteliers are looking to the great outdoors, and crafting itineraries that blend hiking, biking and outdoor pursuits with home comforts, for daredevils and wellness seekers alike.

The much anticipated Six Senses London location is set to open its doors in summer 2024. It marks the second urban outpost (following Rome in 2023) for the hotel group synonymous with high-end holistic wellness, and is part of a reinvention of a faded corner of Queensway, set to be reborn as The Whiteley. Expect 110 guest rooms, 14 branded residences, a plant-filled lounge and lobby bar and an all-day restaurant with an outdoor courtyard. As expected of any Six Senses location, there will be a superlative spa and fitness offering, replete with a 65 ft swimming pool and advanced wellness treatments.

Initially slated to open in 2023, The Emory will open its doors in April 2024. It is an ambitious new offering from the Maybourne Hotel Group, which counts Claridge’s, The Connaught and The Berkeley among its prestigious properties, and you can expect a similar level of timeless opulence. A modernist building in Knightsbridge designed by the late Richard Rogers will be transformed into a suite-only hotel, with sweeping views over Hyde Park. The hotel has partnered with a phalanx of esteemed interior designers for the project, including Alexandra Champalimaud, André Fu, Pierre-Yves Rochon, Rémi Tessier and Patricia Urquiola.

Another Place in the Lake District has built a reputation as a playground for adults and children alike, mixing spa facilities, fire-pit cocktails and restaurants with outdoor pursuits and an Ofsted-registered kids’ zone. Following a successful pop-up in collaboration with The Machrie hotel on the Scottish island of Islay, the team is set to officially add the site to its portfolio. An acclaimed golf course is met by 47 bedrooms and lodges, near to the rolling dunes and wildlife of Laggan Bay beach. In true Islay fashion, whisky tasking and distillery tours, country pursuits and windswept beaches are all par for the course.

The Lake District location will also expand in 2024 with a new country pub called the Brackenrigg Inn. Set to open in February, there will be a handful of rooms with views over Ullswater, and guests can enjoy access to all of Another Place’s hotel facilities.

The latest outpost from the GuestHouse group promises a home-from-home on Brighton’s seafront, set in a splendid Regency townhouse. Thirty two rooms are accompanied by an outdoor terrace, Pearly Cow restaurant, vinyl record library and wellness concept, Field Trip, with treatment rooms and copper bathtubs for saltwater soaks. The prized room is set to be a spacious signature suite with its own private sea-front entrance, with a super-king bed, private Pantry and kitchenette.

Aligned with the ongoing European city break revival, The Hoxton has enjoyed several new openings throughout 2023, including Berlin, Amsterdam and Brussels. In 2024, it will add Edinburgh to its roster, set to open just in time for the Fringe Festival in August. Unusually for The Hoxton, the hotel occupies 11 Georgian townhouses, split across either side of a street in Haymarket. Period features will be offset by contemporary design, embracing subtle textures and local materials, alongside a HOX Gallery spotlighting Scottish artists. There will also be three self-contained ‘houses’, geared at longer stays and events.

The Hoxton will also spread its wings to Vienna, coinciding with Austrian rail operator ÖBB’s rollout of new Nightjet sleeper trains. It will transform a modernist building in Stadtpark into a 196-room property, with a double-height lobby, rooftop bar and basement cocktail den.

If Experimental Group’s first foray into the Alps in 2023 was anything to go by, this new chalet style hotel in Val d’Isère will be very special indeed. Opening for the 2024/2025 winter season in the French Alps, the 110-room hotel is perched at 1850m above sea level in the heart of the town, with two restaurants, a bar, a swimming pool and a spa. The interiors have been designed by long-term collaborator Dorothée Meilichzon in Experimental Group’s signature jewel-toned palette. Experimental Chalet Verbier opened in Switzerland last year, and was joined by new openings in Biarritz, Ibiza and the Cotswolds.

The eagerly awaited Janu Tokyo is opening its doors in Tokyo’s new Azabudai Hills development, a ‘city in a city’ in the Toranomon business district. Janu will mirror many of Aman Resorts’ core values, including conscious, quiet luxury and state-of-the-art wellbeing, but is expected to place emphasis on lively social and dining spaces.

On the fitness front, Janu will house a sprawling Wellness Centre and one of Tokyo’s largest gyms, alongside a 25-metre heated swimming pool. Guests can expect world-class training facilities and Spa Houses, which marry Japanese bathing rituals with Banya and Hammam experiences. Dusit Thani Bangkok will reopen in 2024 following an estimated 1.37 USD billion renovation. The hotel will form part of a newly built structure on the same site as the original property called Dusit Central Park, a mixed-use development comprising ultra-luxury residences, high-end retail and office space, overlooking Lumpini Park.

The hotel will house 257 guest rooms, one of the largest ballrooms in Bangkok and myriad dining and wellness offerings. The original building’s golden spire has been retained, and there will also be a small museum onsite in honour of the former hotel, which acted as an influential social and business meeting spot from 1970 to 2019.

The group is expanding in 2024 with The StandardX, a new concept debuting in Melbourne’s Fitzroy neighbourhood, noted for its creative vibe. Billed as The Standard’s youthful sibling, the hotel has been designed by Melbourne’s Hecker Guthrie studio, with artwork by local talent including Sarah Smalltown, Dane Lovett and Jane Sinclair.
