Iraq War Pictures

Previous Project Next Project
After the countless prisoner beating and army torture stories being reported in the british press this year. I decided to produce some work to comment on the somewhat distorted view of the medias coverage of the war.

This project took the form of recreating scenes from a war such as prisoner abuse, field operations and combat.

The shots were taken in the way a typical fashion shoot would be done using honeycomb lighting and shot on a blad medium format, the resulting effect is an obviously staged effect yet still effect as a message of communication.

The aim of this peice of work has several outcomes;

a. using a fashion shoot method it translates a message that allthough there is a war going on the public seems more bothered about celebritys and fashion than it really does about some 18yr old squaddy taking a nickel plated slug to the back of the head while peace keeping in basra while following orders from a goverment that we voted in? Apathy.

b. the message of the british press currently covering events in iraq and the middle east is so distorted anyway, by spoofing the events they are essentially as ligitimate as the reporting we are fed by the uk media.
